Artist information
As a child I was always sketching the various critters that surrounded me. My mother has kept and laminated many of these and as an adult, I am amazed at how powerful my sense of purpose was at an early age. I have also always been horse crazy and have had the good fortune to grow up with them in my life. My earliest living memory is cantering across a field with my dad on his horse Dodge - that amazing feeling has never left me.
I am a self taught artist and paint mostly in acrylics. I prefer large canvas and bold use of the colours found in the earth's palette.
In order to find source material for my artwork, I took advice from a dear friend to purchase my own camera (Nikon D-90). I have since taken a number of equine photography courses with Laura Cotterman and Christina Handley, which have helped me to capture great source material. In the meantime, I have fallen in love with the artistic power of photography and have added that to my repetoire.
I believe that all of life is energy in motion - and find that there is nothing more exciting than being able to capture that energy through paint and photographs.
My home is in Nanaimo on beautiful Vancouver Island where my husband and I have a small farm in the Yellowpoint area. We have three horses, three Australian Cattle Dogs, three farm cats plus numerous other farm critters. Their antics are constant sources of amusement and inspiration for my art. I dream of someday living in the interior on a small ranch where I can be near working horses and the authenticity of rural life.
I am surrounded by great horse friends in the sport of Competitive Trail Riding and have competed for five years with BCCTRA. I also have my Wilderness Guide Certificate from Spruce Lake Wilderness Adventures (05) and enjoy any opportunity to have the horses near cattle.
